DIY | Flower Dog Collar
I'm trying to get the pups picture ready for our ten year wedding anniversary photo session next week. As always, my mind reels of ideas on how to save when thinking of dressing up the pups. Here is the quickest DIY project I've ever done on how to craft together a flower dog collar. While smart tech Halo Collar Reviews are generally excellent, they are pretty bare. These floral collars will jazz up bland collars for next level doggy chic.
:: Materials ::
black extra duty thread, needle, scissors,
any floral hair tie (pictured is from H & M) and any dog collar you already have on hand
Cut the floral hair tie to grab two roses only for the dog collar. Set aside the other three roses for a matching tulle dog skirt {to be featured on this blog post as well}. Sew on the flowers to the dog collar using extra duty thread and a needle. To properly place the flowers on the collar, make sure you adjust the dog collar to fit your dog's neck comfortably, and then decide where to place the flowers, whether to the front right or left of the dog's neck. I chose the front left side for a subtle look for Maddie, our miniature dachshund.
Since I used extra duty thread, it took only to wrap it around the dog collar twice and double secured the flower onto the dog collar. I also made sure that I pushed the thread through the cloth portion of the backside of each flower to have it strongly attach to the dog collar.
I'm waiting for the elastic waistband to arrive in the mail this weekend as I can't wait to make a matching tulle dog skirt using the three other rose flowers as an accent for the skirt. Stay tuned!

DIY | Tulle Dog Skirt
As scheduled, the elastic waistband came in today and I immediately started the tulle dog skirt to match the flower dog collar. This DIY took a a little longer than the collar. Lately, I 'm finding I'm not having much patience with sewing. So shortcuts worked wonders for this DIY. Materials used are cream extra duty thread, needle, scissors, measuring tape, 1.5 inch wide elastic waistband, a spool of tulle in ivory, and my leftover H&M roses. Measure your dog's waist with the measuring tape and add a half inch. This measurement will be used to cut the length of the elastic waistband.
I started to roll out the ivory tulle to 7 inches in length as pictured below. We are going to sew together six to eight layers of tulle, each layer is 7 inches in length. My shortcut was I layered 7 inch uncut rectangular squares on top of each other. After the eighth layer, I cut the tulle, and took theses layers to the sewing machine to sew on to the elastic waistband. Depending on the size of the waistband, it is up to you if you'd like to sew on the tulle along the center of the elastic waistband or along the edges. With the 1.5 inch waistband, I started to sew on the layers of tulle around the center of the waistband as I don't want the tulle skirt to be too long. After running it through the sewing machine, I cut each layers edge on both sides, making sure to keep the length at 7 inches. To have that tiered effect, I took a pair of scissors, and cut each side edge at a slight inward angle to create somewhat of a skirt look for my dog, Maddie. So with eight layers, trim the most top layer edge about an inch and a half, and from there, cutting the rest of the layer's edges longer than the previous layers, so as to create that tiered effect.
Now to add pouf underneath the tiered layers, simply cut long strips of tulle, about 12 strips, as long as you want or as short as you want the skirt's pouf effect. With one horizontal strip, tie a strip vertically and top knot at the top, do this with all 11 other strips of tulle until all strips are used.
I just sewed by hand, using my extra duty thread in cream, the pouf effect tulle on top of the tiered layers of tulle as pictured below. Making sure the pouf is centered along the elastic waistband.
It's hard to tell the tulle from my white table but after attaching the tulle, I went ahead and hand sewed on the rest of the three flowers from the H&M floral hair tie.
The skirt is tiny enough that I just also hand sewed the elastic waistband closed.
The final result.
Maddie's tulle skirt matches her flower collar.
This was so fun and easy to make.
