On December 2nd, 2011, a last minute decision to make it out to San Francisco on a Friday evening sounded like a great idea. My lovely sister, Vivian, wanted to check out the book signing and speaking engagement for Gabrielle Bernstein, the author of the newly published book "Spirit Junkie" and the founder of a women's social website called http://www.herfuture.com. Vivian also passed on an article from Elle magazine for me to peruse and get to know her better as a person. It was also the first time ever Gabrielle Bernstein was first introduced to Vivian, if you're inclined to know as well, here is the link to the article: http://www.elle.com/Pop-Culture/Movies-TV-Music-Books/gabrielle-bernstein-new-book.
I was double excited because the book signing and speaking event took place at an independently-owned bookstore called The Book Passage inside San Francisco's Ferry Building Marketplace, a gourmet food & wine marketplace with tons of restaurants, coffee shops and cheese stands for your palette to enjoy. For more information about this wonderful place, visit their website's Visitor Information at http://www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com.
The event was scheduled to start at 6pm, and thankfully there was valet parking and we got seated at around 5:30pm. Thirty minutes later, a beautiful lady in black pumps, walks in. Gabrielle had a vintage 80s red and black belted jumpsuit on with, according to my sister, Yves Saint Laurent black pumps. Wow! She looked amazing!
All along I didn't quite understand the connection Vivian made with her book until Gabrielle spoke about it. Here we all are, mostly women and a few gentlemen, over 80 people ready to hear her out. The Elle magazine article was right all along, she is your cool friend's cooler friend. Not only does she try to connect with you as a person, she also made me feel like I was the only person in the room, like she was speaking to me directly. Gabrielle shared her spiritual journeys from personal issues in relationships with family and friends, meditation (a daily surrender), career, body image, food issues, and "Adding More Ing To Your Life" (her first book).
Let me tell you, I was very sold to buy her books. I'm officially a Spirit Junkie. Whatever is good for my soul, it needs a little nourishment and stimulation once in great while. Step 1: Willingness. I bought her first book, "Adding More Ing To Your Life", got it autographed and nicely says "Expect Miracles" heart Gab. I was told to share so stay tuned for a future blog post on details of what I learned about her books. So glad I went! - Marissa
